A client seminar titled “Are you ready for a recovery” organised by Tark & Co’s Tartu team was held in Tartu on 14 May.
In his opening address, the managing partner Aare Tark stressed that it was very important for Tark & Co to share its experience with both long-term business partners and future clients, and that was why it was decided to hold regular client seminars also in Tartu.
The first speaker Margo Lemetti, who is the head of Tark & Co’s Tartu office, talked about ways of avoiding and resolving disputes caused by the recession. He mentioned the main types of disputes that arise as a result of the recession and suggested methods for resolving those disputes.
Partner Hannes Vallikivi touched upon the important things one has to know about the adoption of the euro, focusing on the pricing of goods and services, changes in share capital, and reporting issues.
A member of the Tartu team, Tanel Pürn, addressed the issue of criminal liability of a legal person.
Associate Alo Noormets described the key problems that have arisen in connection with the implementation of the New Employment Contracts Act. He pointed out the Act’s high level of abstraction, which can give rise to more disputes, and the fact that there has not been enough time for establishing case law on the Supreme Court level. Mr Noormets also gave an account of different ways of terminating an employment contract available for employers.
Partner Toomas Taube spoke about important changes in corporate law, concentrating on the resignation of management board members, new methods of voting at meetings of shareholders and general meetings, and case law on the shareholder’s right of pre-emption developed by the Supreme Court.
