Amendment to the Constitution

11.05.2007

The Parliament of Estonia recently adopted an amendment to the Constitution that will come into force on 21 July 2007. The preamble of the Constitution will thereby be amended with a reference to the need to preserve and protect the Estonian language in present and future times. This amendment was motivated by the lack of clear legislative grounds for ensuring the continuing survival of language as part of the Estonian culture.
