An international conference on privatization and market liberalization was held in Belarus on 17 April. The Conference addressed Belarus’ track record of denationalization and transformation of state-run enterprises into joint-stock companies, as well as the outlook for privatization and improvements in the business environment in Belarus.
Belarus launched a major liberalization campaign in 2008 with a view to enhancing the appeal of the country as an investment destination. The government adopted a number of regulatory acts to facilitate investment and drew up a time-phased privatization program.
Conference speakers and presenters were individuals and companies involved in privatization processes having many years' experience of denationalization and corporization, including representatives of the State Property Fund, National Bank of Belarus, Industry Ministry and Finance Ministry, and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
Specialists from Lithuania and Latvia, and representatives of foreign legal and investment firms GILD Bankers, SINDICATUM, Berwin Leighton Paisner, TARK & Co, and Sutkiene Pilkauskas & Partners shared their vision of Belarus' privatization prospects.
More than 100 people from over 10 countries took part in the conference. All presentations are available on Vlasova Mikhel & Partners website at: http://vmp.by/en/news/materials/
The conference was organized by the leading Belarus business law firm Vlasova, Mikhel & Partners, the strategic partner of TLS Alliance in Belarus.
