On 12 April, the Seimas adopted the Law on
Appropriation of Land for Public Needs in Implementing National Projects of
Particular Importance, worked out by TARK GRUNTE SUTKIENE. The Law simplifies
the procedure for appropriation of land for public needs in implementing
particularly important national projects in the areas of energy infrastructure,
transport infrastructure or national defence. The Law minimises possibilities
of abusing the landowner’s rights, appropriation of land may be appealed against
only once, and the court may examine the compensation issue after the
appropriation of land.
According to Ms. Eugenija Sutkienė, Managing Partner of TARK GRUNTE SUTKIENE (Vilnius) and drafter of the Law, “the law accelerates the implementation of projects such as Rail Baltica or power interconnections. It is a significant step in implementing large projects supported by the EU funds and the goal of national energy independence”,
