Tark Grunte Sutkiene receives continuing high rankings from IFLR1000

IFLR1000 is the guide of world’s leading financial law firms. The guide analysis and ranks more than 120 jurisdictions in the world.
The 2011 edition of the IFLR 1000 ranks TARK GRUNTE SUTKIENE Estonia in the top tier in the area of financial and corporate practice.
The IFLR1000 describes TARK GRUNTE SUTKIENE partners Hannes Vallikivi and Risto Vahimets as driving forces behind the firm. The guide writes: “The firm has carved out somewhat of a niche in public takeovers, representing the target in three of the year's most prominent deals, all of which look set to end in squeeze-outs.”
A number of transactions where TARK GRUNTE SUTKIENE acted as an adviser in 2009 and 2010 have also been highlighted; these include, e.g., the advising of the City of Tallinn, Autoliv's €38 million takeover of Norma, the full privatisation of Eesti Telekom by TeliaSonera for €328 million, the sale of Kalev Chocolate Factory, and the acquisition of broadband company Starman by Baltic Moontech Investments Holding.

According to the guide, the firm “has also carved somewhat of a niche in air finance lately, advising Aircastle on the restructure of its aircraft leasing arrangement with a subsidiary of insolvent national carrier flyLAL. In a new lease matter, the firm acted for Nord on its leasing of a Boeing 737-700 to a new market entrant.” Other highlights mentioned include advising European Investment Bank on a €200 million project aimed at creating financial engineering instruments for projects across Europe and advising shareholders' bid to acquire a qualifying interest in Siauliu Bank. The IFLR1000 names Vilius Bernatonis and Jonas Pilkauskas as leading lawyers in the field.
In the field of M&A, managing partner Eugenija Sutkiene and partner Marius Matonis are pointed out as Lithuania’s leading lawyers. Recent work highlights mentioned include advising Tiltra Group acquiring a majority stake in road maintenance company Poland Poldim, and representing German-based reinsurance company Munich Re on its acquisition of a Baltic life insurance portfolio from Norwegian company Vital Forsikring.
